Your 10-Day Crossroads of Culture Itinerary

Day 1: Travel to Budapest

We depart from Dublin Airport on our direct flight to Budapest. On arrival, we will be met by our tour leader and local guide and transferred by coach to the 4-star Leonardo Hotel in a central location, our base for the next two nights.

Day 2: Budapest, the Queen of the Danube

After breakfast, we embark on a guided city tour by coach. Often called the “Little Paris of Middle Europe,” Budapest is a city of two halves divided by the Danube. We’ll admire the grandeur of Pest, home to the magnificent Parliament Building, and then explore the historic Buda side with its medieval streets and castle. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace—perhaps enjoy the riverside promenade, browse the antique shops, or relax in one of the city’s famous cafés.

Day 3: Travel to Serbia & Farmhouse Lunch

This morning, we travel south through the Hungarian countryside and cross the border into Serbia. We’ll stop for an authentic included lunch at a traditional Serbian farmhouse restaurant before continuing to our destination, the 4-star Novi Sad Hotel. We check in for seven nights in this beautiful medieval city, which sits proudly on the banks of the Danube.

Day 4: Novi Sad & Petrovaradin Fortress

Our local guide will take us on a coach tour of Novi Sad today. We’ll visit the city’s major attractions, including the Catholic and Orthodox Cathedrals, followed by a short walking tour of the charming old city. In the afternoon, we visit the magnificent Petrovaridan Fortress, known as “the Gibraltar of the Danube.” This is a truly impressive fortress with few tourists, offering stunning views. Tonight, we enjoy an included traditional Serbian buffet dinner at our hotel, complete with local entertainment.

Day 5: Day at Leisure in Novi Sad

Today is a free day to relax and soak up the delights of Novi Sad. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere, explore the local markets, or take advantage of the excellent value in the city’s shops, chemists, and hairdressers.

Day 6: Fruska Gora National Park & Sremski Karlovci

We spend a full day exploring the beautiful Fruska Gora National Park, an area the Serbian people call the “Pearl of Serbia.” We’ll visit the small, enchanting town of Sremski Karlovci, which dates to the 12th Century and is famous for its vineyards. The park is also known for its many monasteries, and we will visit one of the most important, Novo Hopovo.

Day 7: Day Trip to Belgrade

After breakfast, we travel to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia and the former capital of Yugoslavia. This energetic city, founded by Celtic tribes, lies at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers. Our guide will lead a short walking tour of the old city, after which you will have free time for your own sightseeing and shopping. We return to our hotel in Novi Sad in the late afternoon.

Day 8: Ilok, the ‘Dubrovnik of Eastern Croatia’

Today we cross the border again for a day trip to Ilok, one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia. Known for its friendly inhabitants and strategic fortress, it’s often called the “Dubrovnik of the Danube.” Our guide will lead a walking tour of the old town and fortress, and we’ll visit the Catholic church of St John Capistrano. This area is also famous for its wine, and we will enjoy an included lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Danube.

Day 9: Day at Leisure in Novi Sad

Enjoy a final full day at your leisure in Novi Sad. This is the perfect opportunity to revisit a favourite spot, do some last-minute souvenir shopping, or simply relax with a coffee in Liberty Square and watch the world go by.

Day 10: Travel Home

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and travel by coach back to Budapest Airport for our return flight to Dublin.

Day 1

Budapest, Hungary

Your 10-Day Guided Itinerary

We depart Dublin airport for our direct flight from Dublin to Budapest. On arrival we are met by our Sunway Tour leader and our local tour guide. We will then be transferred to our central 4 star Hotel, the Leonardo Hotel where we will be staying for the next two nights.

Day 2

Budapest, Hungary

After breakfast we take a guided city tour by coach to admire some of the many attractions of Budapest. Often described as the “Little Paris of Middle Europe” or the “Queen of the Danube”, Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old history, but also for the relics of others who settled here. The city has two sides, Buda, and Pest, divided by the mighty Danube River. Pest boasts the largest parliament building in Europe which will remind you of a grander version of London’s Houses of Parliament. Buda has its historic castle and medieval streets and houses. The afternoon is free for you to explore Budapest and enjoy its riverside promenade, flea markets, bookstores, antique shops and excellent restaurants and café houses.

Day 3

Novi Sad, Serbia

After breakfast we travel south of Budapest and through the Hungarian countryside and over the border into Serbia. We will be stopping for lunch at a traditional Serbian farmhouse restaurant. Then we will travel to the the central 4 star Novi Sad Hotel.

Day 4

Novi Sad, Serbia

After breakfast we take a guided coach tour of Novi Sad with our local tour guide, and we visit the major attractions such as the Catholic and Orthodox Cathedrals. We will take a short walking tour of the old city and in the afternoon, we visit the Petrovaridan fortess located on the right bank of the river Danube. It is known as “the Gibraltar of the Danube” due to its strategic location. This is a truly impressive fortress and despite its many attractions there are very few tourists. Tonight, we will enjoy some typical Serbian cuisine at our hotel with traditional Serbian entertainment.

Day 5

Novi Sad, Serbia

We have a free day to relax and soak up the many delights of Novi Sad.

Day 6

Novi Sad, Serbia

Today we spend a full day travelling around the Fruska Gora National Park, The Serbian people refer to this area as the Pearl of Serbia. This will remind a lot of clients when they travelled around the Irish countryside in their youth. We will visit the small, enchanting town of Sremski Karlovci which dates back to the 12th Century and is famous for its vineyards. The Fruska Gora National Park is also famous for its monasteries, and we will visit one of the most important ones, Novo Hopovo, where the relics of Theodore Tiron, the first patron saint of Venice, are buried.

Day 7

Belgrade, Serbia

After breakfast we travel to Belgrade the capital city of Serbia and the former capital of Yugoslavia. It lies on the confluence of two great rivers, the Danube and Sava and is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded by Celtic tribes in the 4th century and is a very friendly and energetic city re-discovering its tourism potential. Our guide will do a short walking tour of the old city. You then have free time for further sightseeing and shopping. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon giving us ample time to enjoy this historic city.

Day 8

After breakfast we travel to Ilok, one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia, on the banks of the river Danube. Its friendly inhabitants are notoriously laid-back and welcoming. The town is dominated by its fortress and is known as the Dubrovnik of the Danube due to its strategic location. Our tour guide will bring us on a short walking tour of the old town and fortress. We will also visit the Catholic church of St John Capistrano, the Apostle of Europe who died here in 1456. This area is also famous for the quality of its wine, and you can buy some in the old wine cellars direct from the producers at very reasonable prices. Our lunch time stop which is included in the cost of the tour is in a lovely restaurant on the banks of the River Danube. We return to our hotel after a leisurely lunch.

Day 9

Enjoy a final free day to relax and perhaps do some last-minute shopping. This is the perfect opportunity to revisit a favourite spot or simply enjoy a coffee in the beautiful main square.

Day 10

Budapest, Hungary

We depart our hotel after breakfast and travel back to Budapest for our return flight to Dublin.
