Travel Escapes brings you to the stunning shores of Croatia where we’ll visit Dubrovnik, Split and Medjugorje on the Adriatic coast on this tour.
With over 1,700 kilometres of coastline, hundreds of idyllic islands, and some of the best weather in Europe, Croatia is the 2023 getaway destination. For the duration of the tour, we will be based in the picturesque town of Makarska, which is widely noted as one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic coast. Its history dates back to ancient Greek times, and the harbour is the heart of the town’s long fishing tradition, as well as providing easy access to the gorgeous islands that dot the coast.
Our itinerary includes a mixture of guided tours and free time to explore independently. We will start with a walking tour of Makarska, introducing you to the major attractions, as well as some local favourites for dining and shopping. We’ll also take a full-day excursion to the spiritual town of Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina, and visit the ancient city of Dubrovnik, known for its massive stone walls and baroque buildings. We’ll also take a trip to the ancient city of Split, home to Roman remains and one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. In between these excursions, you’ll have free time to soak up the atmosphere of Makarska and its surroundings, including the option to take a boat trip to the neighbouring islands.

Today brings one of the most stunning drives north along the Croatian coast, passing the Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brac on your way to the ancient city of Split. Built in and around the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the beginning of the 4th century, Split is a city steeped in history. You’ll take a walk through the old part of the town, famous for its Roman remains and home to the Cathedral of St. Duje, one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. After some time for shopping and sightseeing, you’ll return to your hotel in Makarska in the late afternoon. Split is known for being a bit cheaper than Dubrovnik and is home to a lively city market, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs or try some local cuisine. This is a great opportunity to fully explore the beauty and history of Split on your holiday
