With over 1,700 kilometres of coastline, hundreds of idyllic islands, and some of the best weather in Europe, Croatia is the 2023 getaway destination. For the duration of the tour, we will be based in the picturesque town of Makarska, which is widely noted as one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic coast. Its history dates back to ancient Greek times, and the harbour is the heart of the town’s long fishing tradition, as well as providing easy access to the gorgeous islands that dot the coast.

Our itinerary includes a mixture of guided tours and free time to explore independently. We will start with a walking tour of Makarska, introducing you to the major attractions, as well as some local favourites for dining and shopping. We’ll also take a full-day excursion to the spiritual town of Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina, and visit the ancient city of Dubrovnik, known for its massive stone walls and baroque buildings. We’ll also take a trip to the ancient city of Split, home to Roman remains and one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. In between these excursions, you’ll have free time to soak up the atmosphere of Makarska and its surroundings, including the option to take a boat trip to the neighbouring islands.

Welcome to Croatia! On the first day of your holiday, you’ll be embarking on a direct flight from Dublin Airport to Split. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by our tour leader and transferred by coach to the gorgeous town of Makarska, where you’ll be staying for the next 7 nights. Nestled around a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay and set against the dramatic mountains, Makarska is home to fashionable cafes, restaurants, bars, market stalls, and shops. Its narrow stone paved streets and terracotta roofs are rich in history, and the town boasts several historical monuments, including the 16th century franciscan monastery and St. Mark’s Cathedral in the main square. After settling into your hotel, you’ll have the evening free to explore and get a feel for this charming town on the Adriatic coast

On the second day of your holiday, you’ll have the chance to fully explore the beautiful town of Makarska with our knowledgeable tour guide. After a delicious breakfast, you’ll set out on a short walking tour of the town, discovering all that it has to offer. As the largest town in the Makarska Riviera, Makarska is known for its long stretches of unspoiled beaches, crystal clear waters, and charming fishing villages. Your tour guide will point out the major attractions, as well as some local favorites for dining and shopping. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time to soak up the atmosphere of this gorgeous town and perhaps visit some of the recommendations from your tour guide. With so much to see and do, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to fully experience the charms of Makarska

Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Today you’ll embark on a full-day excursion to the truly spiritual town of Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina. One of the most famous places of pilgrimage in the world, attracting millions of visitors since 1981, Medjugorje is a must-see destination. Even if you’re not religious, you’ll appreciate the breathtaking drive through the Croatian countryside to get there. With prices that are very reasonable and all businesses accepting the Euro, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of Medjugorje. Don’t forget to bring your passport for this excursion! Day five of your holiday and today you’ll have the chance to visit the ancient and breathtaking city of Dubrovnik. Known for its distinctive old town encircled by massive stone walls, Dubrovnik is a place of unparalleled beauty. Its marble streets, baroque buildings, and shimmering Adriatic Sea are a sight to behold, and it’s easy to see why George Bernard Shaw famously said, “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.” The coach journey to Dubrovnik is one of the most stunning in Europe, and you’ll have plenty of time to explore this historic city upon arrival. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to your hotel in Makarska, allowing you the evening to rest and reflect on your unforgettable day in Dubrovnik. Don’t forget to bring your passport for this excursion!

Split

Today brings one of the most  stunning drives north along the Croatian coast, passing the Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brac on your way to the ancient city of Split. Built in and around the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the beginning of the 4th century, Split is a city steeped in history. You’ll take a walk through the old part of the town, famous for its Roman remains and home to the Cathedral of St. Duje, one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. After some time for shopping and sightseeing, you’ll return to your hotel in Makarska in the late afternoon. Split is known for being a bit cheaper than Dubrovnik and is home to a lively city market, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs or try some local cuisine.  This is a great opportunity to fully explore the beauty and history of Split on your holiday

Day 8

Goodbye Croatia!

On the final day of your holiday, it’s time to say goodbye to the beautiful town of Makarska and all of the wonderful memories you’ve made there. After a delicious breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to your hosts and travel to Split Airport for your return flight back to Dublin. As you board your plane, you’ll have the chance to reflect on all of the amazing experiences you’ve had on this once-in-a-lifetime holiday. From the stunning coastline and idyllic islands to the rich history and culture of Makarska, Dubrovnik, and Split, you’ll have a wealth of memories to take home with you.
