Discover the spectacular landscapes of the border between Spain and France on this wonderfully organised Escorted Tour. Our Little Trains of the Pyrenees holiday is designed for travellers who want to experience the majesty of the mountains from the comfort of historic and scenic rail lines. Based in the charming seaside town of Roses on the Costa Brava, this 7-night getaway offers a perfect blend of mountain exploration and Mediterranean relaxation. You will stay at the 4-star Hotel Monterrey, situated right on the beach, providing an ideal base to return to after a day of sightseeing.
Throughout the week, you will experience four distinct and extraordinary train journeys. We travel on the Little Yellow Train from Villefranche-de-Conflent to Mont Louis, a route that offers panoramic views of the French Pyrenees. For those departing in the cooler months of April and October, we provide a delightful alternative visit to the medieval town of Besalú, including a vineyard tour and wine tasting. Another highlight is the Núria Valley Rack Railway, an engineering marvel that climbs over 1,000 metres into a tranquil car-free valley. You will also step back in time on the 100-year-old Red Train, which winds through the Agly Valley past ancient castles and rolling vineyards.
In addition to these rail adventures, we delve into the region’s artistic history with a trip to Figueres. Here, you will visit the Dali Museum, dedicated to the surrealist master Salvador Dali in the very town where he was born. This half-day excursion is a cultural highlight that complements the natural beauty of the Pyrenees.
