Highlights of the Beautiful Sorrento Coast

This eight-day escorted tour provides a thorough and well-paced introduction to one of Italy’s most celebrated regions. Starting with a direct flight from Dublin to Naples, travellers are transferred to a welcoming, family-run four-star hotel in Sant’Agnello, situated just a short distance from Sorrento. This location serves as an excellent base, offering a peaceful atmosphere while remaining within easy reach of the main town’s bustling centre. The itinerary is carefully organised to balance structured guided sightseeing with essential downtime for personal exploration.
One of the primary Sorrento Coast highlights is the guided walking tour of Sorrento itself. You will navigate the town’s labyrinth of cobbled streets, where local vendors sell traditional gelato and Limoncello. The tour includes a visit to the Chiostro di San Francesco, a monastery dating back to the 14th century, and a stop at Sorrento Park. From here, you can enjoy clear views across the Bay of Naples toward the silhouette of Mount Vesuvius. Factual accuracy is a priority for our guests, so it is worth noting that this tour includes a focused visit to the ancient city of Pompeii. Frozen in time by the volcanic eruption of AD 79, the ruins offer a unique look into Roman life. This excursion is enhanced by a wine tasting and light lunch at a vineyard located on the fertile lower slopes of the volcano, where the famous Lacrima Christi wine is produced.
The journey along the Amalfi Coast is another significant feature, conducted by boat to ensure the best possible views of the colourful villages that appear to cling to the cliffs. You will have the opportunity to see Positano from the water before stopping in the historic maritime town of Amalfi. By travelling by sea, you avoid the heavy traffic often associated with the narrow coastal roads, making for a much more relaxed experience. The trip to the island of Capri is equally well-planned, involving a hydrofoil transfer from Sorrento port. A local guide will lead you through Capri town and into the Augustus Gardens, which are known for their spectacular panoramic vistas.
For those who enjoy a bit of independence, two full days have been left free. You might choose to join an optional excursion to the summit of Mount Vesuvius or simply enjoy a coffee in a local piazza. The holiday concludes with a traditional farewell dinner at a local restaurant, providing an opportunity to socialise with your fellow travellers while watching the sunset over the Mediterranean. Please be aware that this tour involves significant walking on uneven surfaces and cobbled streets, so comfortable footwear is essential. This is a straightforward, reliable, and informative tour designed to showcase the best of Southern Italy.
