With over 1,700 kilometres of coastline, hundreds of idyllic islands, and some of the best weather in Europe, Croatia is the 2025 getaway destination. For the duration of the tour, we will be based in the picturesque town of Makarska, which is widely noted as one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic coast. Its history dates back to ancient Greek times, and the harbour is the heart of the town’s long fishing tradition, as well as providing easy access to the gorgeous islands that dot the coast.

Our itinerary includes a mixture of guided tours and free time to explore independently. We will start with a walking tour of Makarska, introducing you to the major attractions, as well as some local favourites for dining and shopping. We’ll also take a full-day excursion to the spiritual town of Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina, and visit the ancient city of Dubrovnik, known for its massive stone walls and baroque buildings. We’ll also take a trip to the ancient city of Split, home to Roman remains and one of the oldest cathedrals in the world. In between these excursions, you’ll have free time to soak up the atmosphere of Makarska and its surroundings, including the option to take a boat trip to the neighbouring islands.

Day 1

Flight from Dublin to Split

We depart Dublin Airport for our direct flight to Split. On arrival we will be met by our Sunway tour leader and then we will be transferred by coach to the hotel in Makarska where we will be staying for the next 7 nights.

Day 2

Makarska, Croatia

Makarska

After breakfast our tour guide will take us on a short walking tour of Makarska and there is so much to experience. Makarska as the name suggests is the largest town in the Makarska Riviera and the region is dominated by large stretches of unspoilt beaches, crystal clear waters and small, picturesque fishing villages. Our guide will point out the major attractions plus some favourite bars and restaurants, plus the best shopping area. The afternoon is free to soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful town.

Day 3

Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Medjugorje

After enjoying breakfast, we travel inland for a full day excursion to Medjugorje, over the border in Bosnia Herzegovina. This truly spiritual place, is one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in the world attracting millions of visitors since 1981, when local children claimed they saw a vision of the Virgin Mary. Even if you are not religious you will enjoy the lovely drive through the Croatian countryside. You will be able to use Euro in Medjugorje but remember to bring your passport for this excursion.

Breath! Today you’ll have the chance to fully relax and soak up the charming atmosphere of Makarska. Nestled around a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay and set against the dramatic mountains, Makarska is home to fashionable cafes, restaurants, bars, market stalls, and shops. Its narrow stone paved streets and terracotta roofs are rich in history, and the town boasts several historical monuments, including the 16th century Franciscan monastery. Take some time to explore the town at your leisure, perhaps visiting some of the recommendations from your tour guide or simply strolling the streets and taking in the sights and sounds of Makarska. With a full day to relax and unwind, you’ll be able to fully experience all that this charming town has to offer

Day 5

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik

After enjoying breakfast, we travel to the old walled city of Dubrovnik. It is known for its distinctive Old Town encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. It is hard to imagine anyone becoming jaded by its marble streets, baroque buildings, and the endless shimmer of the Adriatic Sea. “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik” said George Bernard Shaw. The coach journey to Dubrovnik is one of the most stunning in Europe. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon giving you plenty of time to enjoy this historic city. Remember to bring your passport for this excursion.

Day 6

Relax and let our tour guide recommend a boat trip to the neighbouring islands for those who wish to explore a bit further, or you can simply spend the day relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere of Makarska. With a full day of leisure at your disposal, you’ll be able to fully experience the many delights of this beautiful region.

Day 8

Split & Fly Home

After breakfast we will check out from the hotel. Today we take another stunning drive north along the coat passing the Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brac and proceed to the ancient city of Split. The old part is built in and around the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diokletian who had it built in the beginning of the 4th century. We will be taking a walk through the old part of the town which is famous for its Roman remains and home to one of the oldest cathedrals in the world, the Cathedral of St Duje. We will have some free time before we transfer to the Airport for our return flight back to Dublin.
