Day 2: The British & Canadian Sector: Sword, Juno & Gold
After breakfast, our first full day is dedicated to the eastern flank of the invasion. We explore the British and Canadian landing beaches of Sword, Juno, and Gold. We will visit the formidable German artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer, a key part of the Atlantic Wall. At Courseulles-Sur-Mer, we visit the Juno Beach Centre to learn the story of the 14,000 Canadian troops who landed here. The day also includes a visit to the legendary Pegasus Bridge and its museum, the site of the first daring glider assault, as well as the Arromanches Landing Museum and the peaceful Ranville War Cemetery.
Day 3: The American Sector: Utah & Omaha
Today we journey to the American sector to explore the two most famous landing beaches. We will visit Utah Beach and its excellent museum before confronting the dramatic landscape of Omaha Beach, where US forces suffered their heaviest casualties. We will pay our respects at the moving St Laurent-sur-Mer American Cemetery, overlooking the beach, and visit the La Cambe German Cemetery for a different perspective. The tour then takes us to the beautiful town of Sainte-Mère-Église, one of the first to be liberated, where we visit the immersive Airborne Museum.
Day 4: Bayeux & Departure
Following breakfast and check-out, our final day begins in Bayeux. We visit the Bayeux Military Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth cemetery of WWII in France, and see the Bayeux Memorial to the missing. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the charming town of Bayeux, with the option to see the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry. In the afternoon, you will transfer by executive coach to Paris for your return flight to Dublin, carrying with you the profound stories and history of the Normandy Landings.
