Romania-The historic Bran Castle perched on a cliffside during a Halloween in Transylvania escorted tour.

This six-day Escorted Tour offers an incredible opportunity to explore the history and legends of Romania during a unique Halloween in Transylvania. Departing from Dublin on a direct flight to Bucharest, you will be based for five nights in the charming mountain town of Sinaia. This trip is designed for those looking for something different from the usual tourist trails, focusing on the multi-ethnic heritage of the region, including Romanian, German, and Hungarian influences. You will see these cultures reflected in the local architecture, colourful folk costumes, and varied cuisine.

The itinerary is packed with historical significance, most notably a visit to the 12th-century Bran Castle, famously associated with the legend of Dracula. You will also travel to Lake Snagov to see the tomb of Dracula in a remote monastery and explore Targoviste, the former capital where the real Count Dracula once ruled. Beyond the folklore, the tour highlights the architectural beauty of the Carpathian Mountains, with visits to the spectacular Peles and Pelisor Castles.

Sinaia itself is a delightful base, known for its reasonable prices and local artisans. You will find time-honoured traditions still very much alive here, with carpenters, weavers, and blacksmiths continuing their trades. Small, family-owned shops offer a great selection of antiques and handmade goods, providing excellent value for money. The tour also includes a guided walk through the medieval city of Brasov, where you can admire the Saxon fortifications and the historic market square.

Accommodation is provided in a comfortable 3-star hotel in Sinaia, with the added benefit of breakfast being served in the 4-star hotel located right next door. Throughout the journey, you will be accompanied by an experienced tour leader and a local guide who will provide factual insights into the region’s past. For a bit of traditional protection, every guest is even provided with a clove of garlic. This is a straightforward, well-organised holiday that balances structured excursions with free time to explore Transylvania at your own pace. Please note that the tour involves a fair amount of walking, including steps and uneven ground, so comfortable footwear is essential.
