Itinerary
1Arrival in Amsterdam+
Upon arrival in Amsterdam, you will be met and transferred to your premium river ship. You may wish to use a local map to begin exploring this cosmopolitan city, famous for its intricate canal network. This evening, join your Cruise Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception as your journey begins.
2Canals of the North+
Today you will board a glass-top boat to glide through Amsterdam's 17th-century canals, often called the 'Venice of the North'. Accompanied by a local guide, you will see the historic houses and low bridges that line the banks. After some free time to explore the city on foot, return to the ship for a special Welcome Dinner.
3Cologne and Augustusburg Palace+
Cruise into Cologne and admire the twin spires of the city's famous cathedral. You will take a short drive to Brühl for a visit to the World Heritage-listed Augustusburg Palace. This 18th-century residence is a masterpiece of German rococo architecture. Enjoy a walk through the beautifully landscaped gardens before returning to Cologne for a free afternoon.
4Discovering Cochem on your Rhine Moselle River Cruise+
Spend the morning soaking up the scenery along the Moselle River, one of Europe's most picturesque stretches. In Cochem, enjoy a walking tour through narrow alleyways lined with half-timbered houses. The highlight of the day is a visit to the magnificent Cochem Castle, which sits on a hill overlooking the vineyards and river below.
5The Rhine Gorge and Rüdesheim+
Sail through the Rhine Gorge, widely considered the most beautiful part of the river. After docking in Rüdesheim, ride the Winzerexpress mini road train to Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum to see an incredible collection of automated instruments. Later, you can browse the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas store for unique decorations.
6Strasbourg Old Town+
Arrive in Strasbourg, the Alsatian city on the border of France and Germany. On a guided walking tour of the old town, you will admire the medieval architecture and the cathedral. You will also enjoy a tasting of regional specialities, including local cheeses and sweets, before returning to the ship for a Farewell Dinner.
7Breisach and the Black Forest+
Disembark in Breisach for an excursion into the enchanting Black Forest. You will travel by coach through lush pine and birch forests covering the mountainsides, eventually arriving in the picturesque village of Triberg. This region is famous for its natural beauty and traditional wood-crafted clocks.
8Departure from Basel+
After a final breakfast on board, you will disembark in Basel, Switzerland. From here, you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight to Dublin, bringing your European river adventure to a close.
